Commercial Kitchen & Gas Catering: High-Performance Culinary Engineering
A commercial kitchen is one of the most demanding environments for gas infrastructure. The combination of high-intensity heat, constant moisture, and grease-laden air requires specialist engineering to ensure both operational continuity and staff safety. At Flair Facilities, we provide turnkey solutions for commercial kitchen and gas catering environments, specialising in the installation, maintenance, and repair of professional cooking suites across London.
Expert Installation & Commissioning (COMCAT)
Our engineers hold specific COMCAT 1-5 endorsements, allowing us to handle a vast range of professional appliances. We ensure your kitchen is “inspection-ready” from day one:
- Primary Cooking Ranges: Expert installation of solid tops, open burners, and convection ovens.
- Specialist Equipment: Commissioning of deep fat fryers, bratt pans, and forced-draught pizza ovens.
- Gas Connection Integrity: We utilize high-spec yellow flexible hoses with safety restraints to ensure your Commercial & Industrial Pipework remains safe during routine cleaning and equipment movement.
Mandatory Gas Interlocks & BS 6173 Compliance
Under BS 6173, gas should not be available in a commercial kitchen if the ventilation is not in operation. We design and install fail-safe interlock systems that protect your team from Carbon Monoxide (CO) buildup:
- Airflow Proving: Utilizing differential pressure switches to confirm the HVAC, Ventilation & Mechanical Plant is actually moving air before the gas solenoid valve opens.
- Gas Proving Systems: If your appliances lack flame-failure devices, we install automated pressure-proving systems to check for leaks before every service.
- BMS Integration: We connect your kitchen’s safety status to your BMS Integration & Smart Building dashboard, allowing for remote monitoring of fan speeds and gas status.
Statutory Safety & CP42 Certification
In the hospitality sector, a missing safety certificate can lead to immediate closure by Environmental Health. We provide the mandatory Gas Safety Certificates & CP42 inspection every 12 months:
- Combustion Analysis: We measure CO2 levels at the “chef’s head height” to ensure your extraction is effectively removing toxic fumes.
- Safety Device Testing: Verifying that all isolation valves and Industrial & Commercial Gas Purges points are functional and clearly labelled.
- Flue Integrity: We audit your Flue Repairs, Design & Installation to ensure grease buildup hasn’t compromised the exhaust path.
Infrastructure Protection and Hygiene
A professional kitchen requires infrastructure that can withstand rigorous cleaning and heat cycles:
- Thermal Protection: We apply Commercial Pipe Lagging to adjacent pipework to prevent heat transfer from heavy-duty ranges.
- Corrosion Resistance: Where gas lines are exposed to steam or cleaning chemicals, we provide PVC Jacketing Systems and specialised Custom Steel Cladding to prevent external corrosion.
- Valve Maintenance: We service the manual and automatic valves that regulate your Water & Pressure Systems feeding your steamers and dishwashers.
Why Choose Flair for Your Catering Facility?
- 24/7 Emergency Support: We understand that a kitchen breakdown during a busy service is a disaster. Our engineers provide rapid response for any Emergency Boiler Breakdown or catering gas fault.
- Comprehensive Maintenance: Our Commercial Boiler Repair & Maintenance contracts often cover both the heating plant and the kitchen appliances.
- Manufacturer Expertise: We support all major catering brands, ensuring we utilize genuine spares for every repair and Plant Room Pipework Installation project.
Commercial Kitchen & Gas Catering Frequently Asked Questions
This is usually a fault with the “Air Differential Pressure Switch” in your interlock system. It may be incorrectly calibrated or blocked by grease. We can recalibrate this as part of our BMS Repair, Design & Build services.
We must first perform a pipe-sizing calculation. If your current Commercial & Industrial Pipework isn’t large enough, adding appliances will cause a “pressure drop,” which can lead to unsafe combustion. We can upgrade your gas line and perform Industrial & Commercial Gas Purges to make the new setup safe.
