London, August 2025 – New F-Gas regulations come into effect on 1 January 2025, introducing a ban on installing single-split air conditioning units containing refrigerants with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 750 or higher. The move, which targets gases like R-410A and R-407C, is expected to reshape the UK HVAC market.
Industry analysts estimate that up to 40% of existing systems in use today rely on refrigerants above this threshold, meaning thousands of businesses could face retrofits or full system replacements in the coming years. Preferred alternatives such as R32 and propane (R290) are already seeing increased demand, but both raise challenges in terms of safety classification and installer training.
